ACYF seeks to provide young people would encounter the person of Christ, and connect to the broader Australian Church, reinvigorating the local Church. ACYF is an initiative that will be integrated within the Archdiocese’s Three Years of Youth. With key youth events conducted within the Archdiocese and the desire for greater youth involvement in broader Archdiocesan initiatives, the ACYF will be a key initiative that draws young people into participation in the life of the local Church and a gathering point to engage them into furst particpation in Archdiocesan Youth Ministry initatives.
WHAT IS THE ACYF?
The Australian Catholic Youth Festival (ACYF) is a national gathering of Catholic young people established by the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference (ACBC). It exists to provide young people with opportunities to deepen their relationship with Jesus, be empowered to be disciples in the world today and encounter and celebrate the vitality of the Church in Australia.
ACYF AIMS
The Australian Catholic Youth Festival exists to:
1) Provide a high quality formative and experiential opportunity for young Catholics to encounter Jesus Christ, in the context of the Catholic Church in Australia;
2) Listen to and discuss the issues and challenges in the lives of young Catholics in Australia;
3) Evangelise young people and empower them to be evangelisers;
4) Provide young people with local examples and connections of vocations, social action, liturgy and prayer, catholic music and catechesis.
WHAT ARE WE DOING?
The Archdiocese of Canberra Goulburn is supporting groups totalling approximately 170 youth and young adults from across the Archdiocese to attend the Australian Catholic Youth Festival.
The Festival will support the Archdiocesan Youth Strategies ‘Three Year Plan’ by culminating the Year of Formation and launching the Year of Celebration that coincides with the national Year of Youth in 2018.
WHEN?
The Archdiocese of Sydney is hosting the event from December 7th-9th 2017 on behalf of the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference (ACBC).
The Archdiocese will be departing from St Christopher’s Cathedral on Wednesday 6th December and returning on Sunday 10th December.
